There is a health revolution quietly happening in different parts of the world. More and more people are now realizing the direct connection between health and well-being with nutrition and lifestyle choices. By adopting a lifestyle that promotes eating nutritious food over junk/processed foods, rest and sleep over nights out, and meditation over ceaseless/senseless talking, people around the world are successfully improving their over-all health and in the process inspiring others to do the same. These brave folks are bucking the norm by choosing to follow Hippocrates (father of western medicine) oath of “Let Food be Thy Medicine” and using nutrition as a tool to recover from major (physical, mental and emotional) health challenges.
This blog site is about finding the courage to take personal responsibility and ownership of our health. It is also about finding the inner strength to look beyond the Pharmaceutical Industry for regaining or maintaining our health. I have shared my personal journey of overcoming a number of health challenges by changing my diet and lifestyle. It was certainly not easy to share some of the more personal and difficult moments in my life, but I choose to do so with the hope that it will inspire others to take actions that will improve their health and of their loved ones.
Why is this blog called “Say No To MD”? As you will learn from my story, for me “MD” stands for both “Muscular Dystrophy” and “Medical Doctors”. Interestingly, if you are diagnosed with MD (Muscular Dystrophy) or any chronic illness for that matter and start seeing an MD (Medical Doctor) for relief, you are more likely to stay with them for life – ever hoping for the promised cure.
In my case, after going through that familiar route for years, I finally developed the courage to say “NO” to both and went “Off the Grid” so to speak. I refused to accept the dooms day scenario that is typically associated with Muscular Dystrophy and stopped expecting a magic pill to make me feel better. Instead, I focused my energy on researching, studying and incorporating a number of intelligent lifestyle choices including meditation, deep breathing, yoga, nutrition, herbs, rest, gratitude, service etc to heal my body and mind. These changes/choices enabled me to see my various symptoms as expressions of a singular illness (Systemic Acidosis) rather than a number of apparently disconnected “illnesses” that we are made to believe by the Pharma/Medical industry in general.
This blog site NOT against seeking medical help as there are times when their help is well and truly required, especially at the time of an accident or an emergency. However, as I have repeatedly found out, it would be naive of us to expect anyone including the MD (Medical Doctors) to diagnose and cure us of our various symptoms (some of these take years and decades to finally manifest) by taking pills for just a few days or weeks without finding and fixing the true cause (Acidosis). Undertaking such futile exercise (and we do it repeatedly) might mask our symptoms for a short while, but unless the root cause(s) are addressed the healthy state cannot and will not return. The responsibility for our health lies first and foremost with us. In most cases, the everyday choices that we make ultimately result in our health or lack of. I made some very poor choices over the years and have no doubt in mind that my various symptoms were a direct result of many of those choices. Once I took ownership/responsibility of my own health by making choices that supported my wellbeing, a number of my symptoms disappeared in a relatively short time.
